You really don't know the history of Thanksgiving, do you? Please don't show your ignorance, it is not becoming.

Oh for crying out loud! Let's just not celebrate anything any more. It seems we are alsways offending someone!?! It's getting really rediculous.

They are my people as well & I don't see things quite as dark as you do. The first thanksgiving was in peace with the white man.

What they did afterwards was not thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving was when the pilgrams and native americans came together to have a wonderful meal after a pleantiful harvest. Completly opposite of what you are speculating

Thanksgiving is about giving thanks to God for all the good things we have. We do not thank God for things people do to each other.

No way.

Native Americans helped the pilgrims to begin with. Our nation would have taken a longer time to get started without them.

Thanksgiving is a time where we thank God for all He has given us...just like the pilgrims did.

No, I don't. I celebrate Thanksgiving as a day to be grateful for family, friends and all the blessings I have been given. It is a day to be thankful for all the good things in life.

I'm a Native Am. Indian and no, I don't think it is celebrating murder. I believe it is giving thanks to live in this free country of ours. I think it is giving thanks to live in the promised land. I think it is another opportunity to give thanks to our Father in Heaven for all the many blessings we enjoy each and every day. I think it is a day to carry on family traditions and start new ones.

wow, can't believe no one agreed with u.

I see what you're saying. sure it celebrated their successful harvest, but what happened to the native americans after they were treated to that nice meal?

the nice meal the story that the whites tell, and leave out the part about how they killed millions of the indians and took over their land.

when I think of thanksgiving, I think of oppression, colonialism, and exploitation.

I don't understand why you would think that Thanksgiving celebrates mass murder? Thanksgiving = giving thanks

I can see you are passionate about history. Maybe you can volunteer at a local history museum and share your passion for the History of Native Americans. I believe you will need to do some research on the subject so you don't appear to be so angry. This is 2006 don't go back, move forward, act and teach for the future generations to learn this history. There were blood baths. True. Thanksgiving never had anything to do with any type of violence, just the opposite it is celebrating the food the earth provides and bringing neighbors (of all races) together. Do your research.

While I sympathize greatly with what the europeans did to your people -- no.

Thanksgiving actually celebrates a brief shining moment when the new arrivals were welcomed by the native people here, and before they showed them just how nasty they could be. I think that's a *good* thing to celebrate.

I'd apologize for my ancestors, but mine didn't get here until about 1860, and by then most of the slaughter was already over. Sorry :(

Racism at it's best. Read your history a bit more carefully. It was a time of celebration of harvest and showing friendship as well as giving thanks for what we have (hence the name "Thanksgiving"). I won't apologize for something I have no control over that happened so long ago but you can change the way you think about things by not being so hateful about it and be thankful for all that you do have.

Since they're "your people" it seems you would know more about the history of Thanksgiving. Read more about it and then decide if you want to ask the question. What American Indian nation did "your people" come from? Where were they located? Were they even part of the first Thanksgiving celebration?

No, I do not. Why would anyone celebrate the mass murder of Indians? That is just plain ignorant and seems alot like reverse racism to me.

Get over yourself and step into the 21st century.

the way i understand it both the "native americans" and the "white invaders" were at the first thanksgiving that took place... not a celebration of murder but a celebration of thanks for God feeding and providing for them and taking complete care of them in all situations... but then you Have to believe in a GOD to thank him for helping you make it through one more year and providing for you, don't you?

Not I. It's a national day for thanksgiving for all, to thank God for the blessings He's pronounced on us, regardless of ethnicity.
