First of all, the most important part of Thanksgiving has completely fled unity, so forget everything else and get good food. As an amateur cook I recommend the following.

Mapled Ham: Very time consuming. Unbelievably good if prepared correctly.

Turkey with Gravy: A popular, basic food for the season.

Whipped Potatoes: Basically mashed potatoes, but you can use an electric beater instead.

Cranberry Sauce: Typical Thanksgiving sauce.

Horseradish Sauce: Good for added flavor, do not use in excess.

Sawdust pie: VERY good. on foodnetwork.com

Apple Pie: Many variations. I do not recommend adding raisins.

Pumpkin Pie: Buy it at a store, it is far to difficult to make fresh, and canned pumpkin is much easier.

Check FoodNetwork.com for recipes, if they aren't there, go to the all-powerful Yahoo Search

Having boys, they are not usually "in to" any holiday except Halloween. That being said however, one year we were having Thanksgiving and they were into it. I found a small Mayflower replica, we read the story of Squanto and then we made headbands for all of our guests and added feathers based on what we loved about them.

It was a small gathering of less than 12 people yet, it underscored the message of our thankfulness for having them in our lives, even if the headbands didn't necessarily fit all of the heads properly.

Don't celebrate it until you learn about the TRUE history of Native Americans in this country. The coming of Europeans to their country marked the beginning of the end for them. It was the beginning of unrelenting acts of terrorism against them...a holocaust with no end in sight as every treaty, law and agreement the U.S. government has ever made with Native Americans has been broken. The U.S. government will not be happy until every Indian is dead and every inch of his land has been robbed from him. Unfortunately, this is not exaggeration, it is written policy if you ever examine the historical political documents upon which this nation was founded. I will never feel comfortable celebrating Thanksgiving until we as a country do right by its original inhabitants.

Sounds like maybe you want to get out of town. I suggest VacationstoGo.com

They are great and have cruises, resorts, and tours for everyone. And the prices can't be beat.

And no, I don't work for them. I'm a satisfied client.

Now, if you meant what restaurant to get reservations at, I'd need to know more about where you are.
