About Thanksgiving?

Question

Do you feel like Thanksgiving is the forgotten Holiday? I mean it's fun to watch football and eat turkey and mashed potatoes, but it feels like it's kinda gone by the wayside. No special songs or music or anything like that to make it memorable. Agree or disagree?

Nowadays with everyone constantly on the move and crammed for time, not many families get together any more to have a nice Thanksgiving meal, not like they used to when I was young.



This is a shame. Families need togetherness time in order to be able to combat their futures and such. But not many families have a lot of time to spend with each other. We live in a fast paced society and people would rather go to a fast food restaurant or go to a junk food vending machine than staying at home to cook a nice dinner and have all their friends and family join them. To me, this is sad.



It's not just Thanksgiving that is endangered, but Christmas and Easter as well. Holidays have become so commercialized as of late and people totally miss out the true reason(s) why we celebrate these holidays in the first place!

I feel that the most important Holidays are the ones where families gather together to count and appreciate all the blessings that have been bestowed upon them.Its nice because no matter how much bad stuff happens to you these Holidays help you to remember all of the wonderful,nice stuff that has come your way!! These Holidays also bring a family together which is also very important. Thinking of it this way,no,Thanksgiving has not fallen by the wayside-its as strong a Holiday as any other-even Christmas!!

Oh yeah,I almost forgot the most important part about Thanksgiving-its the best time to catch up on juicy family gossip!! LOL!!!

I absolutely love that Thanksgiving has remained untainted by commercialism and glitz and forced gaiety. It is just about family and friends and love and gratitude and good food. And if you want to hang out and relax and watch football, that's okay, too. I think I might find a song specifically written for Thanksgiving a little strange, although the idea of gathering around a piano and singing lovely songs does sound warm and fun. I once attended a Thanksgiving dinner where afterward a lot of guests got together and did a drum circle. Also, someone played guitar and sang songs he had written. It was wonderful. But that was all just people sharing their music...again, not specific Thanksgiving tunes.

Does a holiday really need a special song for you to enjoy it? If so, what about Columbus Day? Or Veterans' Day? Easter?



I think the important thing about Thanksgiving is being thankful. And I think that there are many of us who work to show and express our thanks accordingly.



I definitely think you should make up a song, though. I'll sing it all day long, if you can get us a good one!

I totally agree. The Pilgrims had Thanksgiving because they were thankful for surviving in the new world. They thanked God for helping them. Part of the problem may be that people no longer believe in and/or worship God. But the main thing is that people are just taking everything for granted these days. Nobody appreciates anything anymore.

I think we in the USA should celebrate Thanksgiving every day. We are so lucky to have food on our table and friends and family to share it with. The US also has quite alot of poverty level familys and it seems there are a lot of food drives on the major holidays for those people less fortunate. I think we should give every day, not just on these holidays. People have to eat everyday.

I love Thanksgiving. It is my favorite holiday. I think it depends on how your family or community celebrate it and build up to it. I can't wait for October to come...first Halloween and then Thanksgiving. Fall is the most wonderful time of the year. BLessings:)

We love Thanksgiving. The whole family pitches in and cooks dinner, we start decorating for Xmas, watch a movie, and hang out together. It's great and you have enough left overs for dinner for two days, two days off from cooking.

i kinda feel that thanksgiving is a "warm up" holiday for christmas. like we always draw names for christmas at thanksgiving and talk about who's bringing what to christmas dinner and who's house we're having it at. it kinda gets me in the mood for the rest of the season.



and actually, jingle bells is really a thanksgiving song that was usurped by xmas. ;)

if you don't like it fix it personally its one of my favorite holidays 1you do not have to buy any thing except food (like presents)2 there is know real decorations to put up and take down 3 almost every body gets it of 4most every thing is closed so you pretty much have to spend it with family 5all the good food you get to eat its almost the perfect Holiday

yeah well some people do not want to remember it - like many of my native american friends - it reminds them of what thier ancestors have been through - and if you look at how the europeans stole the land and pushed the natives off thier land - this is not something to celebrate with song & dance
